A thread for the health conscious members to discuss their fitness training, diet and statistics..

Whenever I tell someone online that I am around 220lbs they automatically assume that I must be overweight. But that couldn't be further from reality.

I am a very fit and active individual and I spend countless hours in the swimming pool and hitting the weights room crafting a body that is suitable for my role as a firefighter.

My statistics are this;
  • 2.5km run (best time 9 minutes, 28 seconds)
  • 5km run (best time 23 minutes)
  • Bench Press (200kg)
  • Dead Lift (300kg)
  • Leg Press (500kg)

When growing my muscle mass and maintaining it I personally prefer doing it without the aid of protein shakes.... My diet mainly consists of a lot of eggs, turkey, chicken, fish, whole grains, milk, porridge, nuts and peanut butter.
I also eat on average 7 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

My daily fitness routine looks like this;
  • Pre workout meal of porridge, peanut butter and a banana.
  • 1.5 hours of Cardio & Weights
  • [Warm Down] 30 x 25m lengths in the swimming pool.
  • Post work out lunch consisting of Turkey, Chicken or Fish, with 3 different portions of vegetables (usually sweetcorn and Carrot & Sweet potato mash) and grilled tomatoes.

And I have 1 recovery rest day every 3 days.

Other tips I could give for lowering your sugar levels are to replace fruit juices with Aloe Vera juice. This contains just as much vitamin C as Orange Juice, however at only 5cal per 500ml bottle and low in sugar this is a great alternative.
I've also replaced soft drinks with healthier alternatives such as fruit infused waters and teas such as green tea, jasmine tea and lemongrass tea.

After the bookstore rush when I'm not working 12 hr shifts, I plan to return to my gym routine. I am overweight and it is a uphill battle to lose weight. I want to not be overweight for once in my life, I want to get stronger so I can keep being able to pick up our dog, and I want to lift more at work. I can currently lift up to 60 lb boxes of books. I am going into electrician program at school, which having more strength will help a lot. I also have flat feet and having stronger calves and legs will help me stand for longer.

I do 30 - 60 min on the elliptical followed by either leg day or abs and arms day. I am sticking to 5 days currently. I eat salads, cheese stick, and a fruit in the morning. I eat more protein in the middle of the day. I eat dinner and end with a night snack of usually a banana, salami with cream cheese wrapped banana peppers, may be peanut butter, and maybe pickles.

I'm on a medication from my endo doc that stimulates hormone production and lowers my appetite. After I lose 20% of my weight, I'm going to get a trainer at my gym, and go from there. ^ ^ And once I lose enough weight, I'll get a navel piercing and my first tattoo!

I would recommend knocking off on the night snack. Unless the snack is something like an apple.

If you want to lose weight then having a dinner that's high in calories and/or a night time snack is the worst thing that you can do. Because your body will only store all of the calories that you've taken in.

My breakfast and lunch is usually my most heavy meals and then for dinner I will only have something that is light and low in calories.

I'm going to have to politely disagree. I'm doing everything with my endos knowledge. Sorry, but I'm going to take my endo's word. And I have lost weight before with the simple means of less calories in, more calories out (that is how losing weight works). And I will always eat a banana because if I don't then I'm up all night with charley horses. Also, because I am diabetic, I will ALWAYS eat after a work out at night because otherwise my blood sugars drop and it can kill me. ^ ^ I very much want to stay alive.

I was referring to the salami, soft cheese and peanut butter as snacks that ought to be avoided at night time. Fruit is perfectly fine though imo. (processed meats such as salami are also bad in general)

I'm hypoglycemic so I understand the importance of replenishing one's sugar levels. Especially after a work out. But I just take the sugars, carbs and fats into consideration if I am consuming something before going to bed. Which is why I only stick to fruit such as apples or pears at night.
