Whether it be for books or movies before you read/watch them? I don’t usually.

I do skim through reviews when getting a product or service sometimes…

Yeah unless you’re watching something very obscure, I think it’s difficult to go into a movie without having some kind of impression in mind since people talk about what they think.

which is partially what reviews do, give you an impression or something to expect, but obviously a “it’s good” isn’t the same as a more in depth review

still regardless both achieve a similar result… they color you perceptions. It’s hard to go into things completely blind.

No, my taste in just about everything means reviews are usless. I do read and watch reviews about tech though. Books/movies never. A lot of movies and books I like don't do well.

Video games, yes, basically always. I've been bitten too many times on nice but way overpriced, or it has unfortunate DLC mechanics, etc. There are only a few IP that I'll buy without looking up to reviews, like Legend of Zelda.

Books, I tend to read reviews after, mostly to see what other people liked that I didn't or disliked that I missed. Though I'm at the point that "as seen on BookTok" means "probably crap."

Movies and TV shows, I don't bother because I mostly watch Netflix, so no skin off my back if I dislike a particular show. I paid $10 for all the content, not that one episode.

Before I watch a movie I tend to check the audience score on Rotten tomatoes. However, I'm still quite picky when it comes to movies because I thought Scream 5 was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but the critic score is 76% & the audience score is 81%? It was a solid 31/100 imo.

I always check for that golden 3.5/5 stars on a Chinese restaurant though

Regarding new Metal albums I regularly look at the Stormbringer album reviews to make preselections. Stormbringer is an Austrian Heavy Metal online magazine. I case you can speak/read German:

For films, no. Even though, for the past decade or so, movie trailers seemed to spoil everything or nearly that.
