I have a discord community I'm part of, and a new member is going through and responding to messages from a year ago. It's so weird to me when people dig up really old threads and such.

Yeah, I get how it happens when a thread or whatever has been dead, but it's weird otherwise, right? I think the same thing here too, when sometimes newbies dig through pages of a sub forum to bump a thread from 2022 or whatever. But maybe I'm just a grump

It depends on the topic. If it was an interesting discussion and newbies want to express their opinions, why not? That being said, I know forums where it's not allowed to revive old threads.
