I pronounce Maryland in a way that confuses a few people about which state I'm talking about. I didn't know this until maybe last month.
But I had a convo with someone from Cali, and they blinked a few times after I said Maryland. And then they said, "Oh, Mar-ih-lend," and complimented my accent.

I pronounce Maryland like "Merlin."

I don’t think anyone’s ever told me that, or even commented on it really. The closest is probably that one person that told me I had a slight Russian accent which no I don’t otherwise I don’t think I’ve gotten any comments about any of my accents, other than people asking me if I’m a foreigner in Russia. But if someone randomly wants to compliment my accent I wouldn’t mind You don't need to know the sound, you can just compliment it

When I studied outside my region (same language, just different dialects), a girl asked me if my mother tongue was french.
I lowkey kind of felt flattered because I speak with an accent that's tied to one city in my region. I don't speak that particular dialect fluently. I hate that accent/dialect so much
