I believe in not walking under ladders, but more because it seems dangerous rather than thinking it will bring bad luck. Or I suppose "I don't want a ladder to drop on me" is a way of avoiding a specific type of bad luck.

There's one my family always did so I guess I did it by default When we traveled somewhere far, we'd all have a seat right before leaving, even if not all of us went. Even got my dog in on it since she knows the sit command

I looked into it and it apparently originated from those days that people thought house spirits actually existed. Sitting before leaving was their way of either asking permission to leave or appeasing them so they wouldn’t bother you when leaving. Nowadays people don’t generally know the history, it’s just habit. And also a good time to think back to make sure you didn’t forget to pack the most important things
