The name “bikini” comes from the name “Bikini Atoll”, an area on the Marshall Islands. It became well known for being the site of US nuclear tests. The designer of the bikini wanted to give the same vibe of energy, explosion, and shock that those nuclear tests did, which is why they went with that name.
