Do you like sprayed edges on books? (1 Viewer)

Because I do. This trend 100% caters to me. I've managed to avoid spending money on anything that's just pretty, though, and not actually good content.




I don't have anything as fancy as above, but I do have The Sunlit Man with black edges, The Last Murder at the End of the World with teal edges, and I just wish I had a Mark Lawrence book with sprayed edges; he always gets such good ones, cry.

And I have Uproar with the pink edges, which I bought even though I'm not huge on nonfiction, after the author posted a video showing how the edges get painted.

Jealous!! I know some markets get nicer versions of the sprayed edges, like Mark Lawrence's tweet showing off the French version. Meanwhile, my American copy had nothing. I wonder what makes some publishers decide to invest and others go "nah."

I like it when it's a book I like, because then your shelf looks even nicer with the extra aesthetic. But I do have some book club friends who have bought books they knew they didn't like, just because a particular look worked well for what they were going for.

Though I think it'd annoy me to see a book I disliked all the time, taking up valuable shelf space.

Some publishers here in Germany even release two versions of a book, one with sprayed edges and one (cheaper one) without the sprayed edges (like fourth wing by rebecca yarros)
I spent a small fortune for the folk of the air trilogy by holly black, but i think the edges look so nice

i really flip my books from the edges so they're the places that show the most wear so I'm not the biggest fan personally
