Do you say "I love you" to or back to your friends? (1 Viewer)

I've noticed that I feel really awkward saying it to anyone who is not my family, even though I actually love my friends more than most of my family. Like I'm way more likely to say "I just adore you" or something that is clear that I love them, but is not the actual phrase.

no i cant say it to anyone, not even my family. the phrase makes me, personally, feel really gross and weird. saying it and being told it.
i express it through physical affection though

I have in the past but it's something I'm actively trying to change since I feel it has devalued the words.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you want to tell someone how you feel but you lack adequate words?
I have so I'm now trying to only use strong words like love or hate in exceptional situations and I only say I'm sorry when I'm truly regretful and not just to placate someone, etc.

I'm not saying anyone else is wrong to do it but personally I want to feel like my words carry weight when they need to so I will reserve the L word for a select few even if I might care deeply for my friends.

i honestly don't think i've ever said it to anyone other than family, and that's only if they say it first 😭... i recognize the importance of saying it, and think it's admirable when others are able to do so freely, but i personally just have my own hang-ups when it comes to expressing affection

I feel the term love and certain other words have lost all meaning when used more and more and further from their intended meanings...

it's also the same for other non-relationship stuff like I also never profess to LOVE a song or LOVE a food

to me love is special and should hold a special place since that word is to be valued and cherished..

If everything is "great" or "special" or "loved" then it dilutes the actual meaning and situations when something is great

To super super close friends online, though very rarely. I think only one friend fits the bill. I also don’t say it to family ever. It’s just for my partner and that one friend.

i used to be horrible with verbally expressing my love. but lately, i've realized that my friends are truly like answered prayers in my life and i want them to know how much they mean to me so i have started being more comfortable with saying i love you to them. i do still get awkward sometimes (i'm so bad at intimacy, i feel like i'm licking people's necks) but i love them too much to withhold that.

This description kills me, but also, yes!! It feels awkward, even when my friends say it first and they clearly don't feel weird about it themselves.

Depends on the friend actually
With some of my friends its mutual and well say "I love you" and also respond to it

But with some others if I said "I love you" to them they'd joke around and say "ew wth" and I wouldn't blame them because I'd say the exact same
