I get that they might feel like they are forced to make those statements, but even if they are forced for person to publically make statement in support of alleged forced labor in region that is being accused of committing genocide... I can't just feel comfortable to watch stuff with them. I saw videos of Jackson being recommended to me on youtube and I used to be find him funny, but I just can't ignore sth like this.

Yixing has pulled out of some advertising endorsements because of it too, and honestly it bothers me. I get the likes of him and Jackson are basically the Chinese governments entertainment puppets, but I'm not and morally I have to disagree with Yixing for supporting it.

Jackson also supports the Chinese rule over Hong Kong so you have to take his political opinions with a pinch of salt. He is Chinese and his company is huge, he is a businessman through and through. He is funny, charming and good looking but I also struggle to take him seriously. But China is powerful and if you are in a Korean group, you get constantly reminded you are a foreigner. If your own country cancels you, no one saves you. Chinese idols are just extra careful. But I know what you mean.

Yea i heard that many pulled out of big endorsements due to it and apparently there is boycots of H&M, Adidas etc. I was bit surprised these companies were vocal like that cause usually it's money that rules all and I have been concerned we are heading into capitalist dystopia very soon.. guess not yet.

Yeah I think it was Converse that Yixing pulled out of as well. I guess the companies need to make a stand before everybody else finds out and boycotts.

yes, but i think it is equally as important to understand the way the govt is spinning the issue
I can assure you that the average netizen on weibo and pocket48 at least thinks that this whole thing is a trade war orchestrated by the big bad us because they are wary of growing chinese influence by targeting the perfectly ethical cotton grown in xinjiang where the industry is one of the things pulling up the local economy lmao
I’m fairly confident that the idols active abroad have at least some awareness of it so I do have mixed feelings about it: it’s hard to tell who genuinely believes in it and who is pressured to take public stances on it
Lay is literally a spokesperson for the ccp atp so I don’t bother listening to his political stances, Jackson... not much either because again, he’s not mainland even if he has family there, and plenty of your og taiwanese entertainers have survived in china without saying anything remotely political

Yup i think it makes sense that avg citizen wouldn't rly go what's going on especially if they didn't have access to english newspapers etc. But i feel like idols living outside of China don't have that excuse. I understand not speaking against it, but supporting it goes too far.
