Do you tend to like the main characters or side characters more in stories? (2 Viewers)

A friend of mine is watching Alice in Borderland now, and we're talking about how all our faves are everyone except for Usagi and Arisu (who are still very cool!).

I think side characters tend to have more space to be interesting, because they don't necessarily need to be liked, so I tend to find them more captivating.

What do you tend to prefer?

I guess side if I think about it. Which is interesting because before I thought about it I assumed I’d say main But your reasoning makes sense, and may be why it’s that way for me too

So I am a big mix in this regard.

I have so many main characters that are literally the loves of my life. Like Kestrel and Arin from The Winner's Trillogy, Viola & Todd in Chaos Walking (but also Davy & Wilf), and so on and so forth. But in some books I really loved side characters like ToG I hated everyone except for Nehemia, and in An Ember in the Ashes I really loved Izzy, but adored Elias as well and some of his friends too. It just genuinely depends.

I watch a lot C-dramas and often the main characters are there for the plot and the side characters are for comic relief

but I guess I still stick with the main characters

It depends on what the movie/show is. Honestly I can say I like both equally. Using Lost as an example since I just finished the series. There were so many side characters that I grew to bond with. I also love the main character Jack equally as much

It varies. Maybe I like both at times.
I recently watched Twilight for the first time, and I was interested in everyone but the love angle.

in series where more characters' personalities are explored then i like the side characters more, but in movies i usually prefer the main ones since the side ones sometimes lack any depth to them

I always latch onto the side characters too for the same reasons
I think it's more interesting too to see how differently different people can interpret them whereas for main characters it very easily falls into ooc territory
this is more for idol dramas, but the main characters almost always end up annoying me so much I shift focus and start rooting for any other character out of spite

It varies, but more times than others, I would go with the side/minor characters from a video game/story/tv show (my current DP is an example of a side character I love from Bleach).
