Do you think flags need to be reproducible by kids to be effective? (1 Viewer)

It’s a common thing that people say, that a flag that’s too complicated and not reproducible by kids isn’t a good symbol because flags are propaganda at their base. What’s your opinion about this?

not really? I mean, the US flag is pretty complicated bc 50 stars and 13 stripes, and it's still effective

Nah, I think Saudi Arabia's flag looks cool and many kids around the world don't know how write well in Arabic enough to pull it off. The aussie flag is also hard but somewhat recognisable, though I think we should change it for other reasons.

I remember when I was like 8-9 I had to memorize flags of different countries. I never felt an issue with them nor did I think anything of them. If anything I was more annoyed by my own country it's history related stuff I had to study

Yeah I think there’s a difference to between being able to perfectly replicate vs replicate to the point of comprehension. The US flag isnt going to be replicated perfectly by a kid with crayons, but it’s still easy for a kid to draw a flag that you look at and think “yeah that’s the US flag”. But I also think part of that is outside factors, like the sheer number of American flags in the wild

I don’t think it’s about kids particularly wanting to draw flags, I think it’s just used as a way to say it needs to be simple enough that anyone can replicate it if they want

I think Zimbabwe’s flag is super cool but it’s definitely not able to be drawn by most kids

i am conflicted. a flag made by kids is so precious and special and was made with a heart that hasnt hopefully yet been tainted by the world
but destroying that flag to taint their innocent heart would be so funny
