i think it helps a little. for example, Twice's J-line has helped boost their popularity in Japan.

there are plenty of idol groups with only Koreans who are successful so i don't think having a foreign member helps tremendously

It really depends on where the idols are from I think. Depending on their nationality it may even “hurt” the group.

Zhang Hao from ZB1, for example, has a really strong chinese fandom
His chinese fans alone bought around 500k albums

Lots of Koreans were hating on Ningning and Giselle because they weren't Korean
