Do you think it's "weird" to call an idol by their real name when they have a stage name? (1 Viewer)

I have seen a lot of people debate on whether or not fans should call celebrities by their real name when they have a stage name. Some claim that it makes no sense because "you don't know them" and in some ways, I can agree with that. But, other people say it's fine because an idol's stage name can be pretty wack sometimes lol.

So, do you think it's "weird" and disrespectful to call an idol by their real name when they have a perfectly good stage name??

Do you prefer stage names or real names??

I do a bit of both, depends on which I identify them with. Like I call Kai Kai not Jongin but I call D.O. Kyungsoo a lot. I don't really have a pattern with it though honestly it's just whatever I think of first

I think idols use stage names to maybe differentiate between "normal" and "idol" life or perhaps (which is more likely) their companies gave them their stage names to sound cool, be easier to pronounce for foreigners in case they make it big etc. I usually use stage names though, despite some idols having better real names rather than the stage names (Onew would be an example, I feel like Jinki fits him so much better ♥),
Also, the last point, I think it depends whether the members use the stage name or the real name. In Stray Kids, most members call "Lee Know" by his real name (which is Minho) and same with Kyungsoo in EXO. You don´t often here EXO calling him D.O. So that might create a feeling that they are probably more comfortable with their real name. It also comes to the fact - WHO chose the stage name after all.

It depend on the idol. With some idol I prefer to call them by their stage name and with other some I call them by their real name. And some I call them by both their stage name and real name. Like with Stray Kids Bang Chan I called him both Chan and Chris just depending on how I feel.

I call IM Changkyun bc otherwise it sounds like I’m starting a statement- “I am blah blah blah...” lol But on the other hand, I call J-Hope by his stage name bc... well, let’s be honest. The pronunciation “hoe suck” doesn’t sound very SFW, does it? Lol I’m not knocking dear old Mr. Jung (or Wonho for that matter) - just a random late night observation

I guess what I’m saying is, it can go either way. Some idols real names are just more appealing in sound than their stage names, and vice versa.

I always use their stage name as most of the time they're made to be original so it's easy for people to know who you're talking about where as their real names don't have to be as much.

There are some idols who don't like their stage names though with one of them being Yves however in her case her real name is Sooyoung which unless used in a way that could only relate to Loona then it'd clash with Girls' Generations Sooyoung.

I usually use real names because it just comes to mind first. Except Doyoung, I’m never ever calling him Dongyoung lol it just feels weird

I think it's fine if their real name is widely known, otherwise sometimes it's just annoying if I'm not a fan of the group and have no idea who they're talking about.

Well...it doesn't matter to me tbh. For example, WOW's real name is Sehyoon but I almost always call him Sehni.

Well it depends. If I know a idol is more comfortable with their real name then I use the real name.
When I can't pronounce the real name I use the stage name xD or when the stage name is easier to memorize and makes it more clear who I'm talking about

I just called them whatever everyone calls them. If they go by their Korean name more, I usually go with that

Sometimes. For example I'll say Xiumin for the reason that there's a lot of idols/actors called Kim Minseok (there were three in a show he was in a few years back), but I'll say Kyungsoo instead of D.O. because his name is less common.

I don't think it's an issue either way. Sometimes I use their real name and sometimes it's the stage name. It's just what I think of first.

Yeah Dongyoung sounds weird to me, Doyoung just flows better.

I don't find it weird; just confusing. The real name is mostly known by the fans and few people out of the fandom; so it gets confusing when someone mentions an idol I seemingly don't know and it turns out it's someone I do know about.
