I think that if you have no korean in you or you arent near korea (as in the country that ur from) i wouldnt rlly want you to be a kpop idol.

HOWEVER

if yoire frommmm uhhh Mexico and your mom is korean then go ahead be a kpop idol!

Bc i kust think it ruins the whole purpose of it being K pop, yknow? The k stands for korean not global

What do you count as "near"? Additionally, what if someone was born, raised their whole life in Korea, was a Korean citizen, does that mean they should definitely be allowed to be a kpop idol and you'd support them/at least not disapprove of them being in kpop? Because keep in mind there are different races living in South Korea too, and while there may not be many of them I'd be shocked if absolutely no whites for example are born and raised in South Korea. But many people would probably throw a fit if someone like that tried to be a kpop idol despite having more argument for being Korean than plenty of kpop idols. I don't really care who tries to be a kpop idol tbh. Why should I have a say in that as a non Korean? And I can't be bothered to get annoyed over something like that anyways, too much effort.

You put a bullet in to your own foot and ruined your own arguement... I think the kpop industry would implode without other talent. Half of all kpop groups wold lose their best talent. BP with no Lisa... We'd rename it Failpink. Twice with no momo, tzuyu,Mina, dahuyn, or Sana? I'm the only one around here that's allowed to say such stupid comments!

Why do you want to start drama? Because you're bored?
Maybe you should find something productive to do, then, by searching and reading more outside of school assignments and expand your mind.

If a person whose dream was only to be in the music industry, particularly the KPOP industry, left their native country after winning an international audition process in their country held by specific labels, moved to Korea on their own to train for a very long time with other fellow foreigners and Koreans, while learning the Korean culture and the language, wanting to become part of a KPOP group who will eventually debut, I personally have no issue with them being in the groups.

So...... if your child wanted that, and was accepted by a label, would you do everything to reject and stomp on their dream?

Not even going off the logistics of what would count as “Korean” and how this would close out many asian countries that helped and gave out many successful kpop idols, kpop, historically, takes influence from many genres and what was most influential, is black american music like hiphop, rnb, etc. and even now companies get producers all around the world to help out, many of which aren’t from Asia.

The way I see it, while the Korean language and influence is important, kpop really has people from all kinds of backgrounds building it to be what it is, whether it be in the production and writing itself, making the choreo, the non korean idols, etc. it’s just not a pure originated in korean thing by koreans for koreans. At least not now with how much globalized the industry has become.

And for as much as kpop fans (usually non korean ones…) hand wring about “westernization”. That’s not a bad thing and I think it’s actually really cool that this music genre is capable of bringing so many people of different backgrounds to collaborate and make music that reaches people all over.

because of that, I’d say if non korean and even non asian idols are willing to learn korean and put in the work to be an idol like k trainees, it’s fine. It’s out of genuine love and respect for the art.
