Does anyone else think this way? (2 Viewers)

My brother said the other day that if he experiences/knows that others can make whatever food he's having better it ruins the food for him. Like the example he used was falafel, he said if he hadn't been to Israel and known how good theirs was he'd think the falafel my mom made was delicious, but since he does know it makes the falafel seem worse than it would be otherwise. I don't really get it, to me I know others can of course make more delicious food. But if something is tasty, even if worse than some people make it, it doesn't change the fact that it's tasty anyways. Sure theirs might be more tasty but mine still is tasty and I accept it as such.

i mean idk? if it's good it's good, doesn't matter whose version is better.

but i think i do end up comparing different versions of food, like "oh this restaurant has good biryani but that one has the best" or "this curry is good but my dad can make it better". it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the food though, good food is good food.

I do compare foods here and there but if its good then it doesn’t matter, same with if its bad.

I agree with both of you, comparison is normal and expected imo. It’s the idea that if a better version exists that makes the worse version worse than it actually is. That I can only understand maybe if you’re very used to the better version and it raises your expectations in that way.

sort of?? maybe different? i get like that w/ specific homemade meals
like example, i can only eat my grandma's potato salad & gumbo. ive eaten others and they were fine, but but still compared to my grandma's god tier food, it just felt gross to eat and i hate it.

i really dont know how to explain it like it could taste fine, good even, but my body rejects it ksdjf.

I could understand a bit if it was that you’re very used to that quality. But in my brothers example he had falafel in Israel twice max, so not something he’d be used to.

I bet ur brother can still eat it, but it just hits different now.
It's like only eating apples your whole life for example and then one day being surprised with mango, ananas, bananas, melon. It's like your taste buds are open to another set of flavors and the apple doesnt compare anymore.

He feels like if the food he's tried isn't as good as from another place then that makes the food he's eating worse than it would be otherwise.
