Many people are surprised that the house system you know from Harry Potter (Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor) is a tradition in the UK and normal there.

Some schools in Ireland also use the house system, we used to have them at my college.

no ive never even heard of anything like that irl, we did have fraternities/sororities at my college but they're not really a big deal or anything, most students never even join one. are houses similar to that? do you get to pick which one you join, is it mandatory?

The schools I went to had similar systems to houses, but a bit different. At some point we did have houses, but that was only for a certain time. I actually haven’t seen any too many schools with a housing system here; I didn’t know colleges did them either😂i think it’s cool to have houses, in secondary schools especially. Id love the Hogwarts feeling

no, none of that. most parts of the college/school culture are unheard of here.

no, we just have home classes, a bunch of people you spend 9 years with. the classes are separated by letters 1.A, 1.B sometimes 1.C and 1.D depending on how big the school is.

I think that yes, but our classes usually took classes together? I am not sure, but I think in Britain your "class" can consist of different people every time.?
like similar to the States? You can have a biology class with someone who is not in your Math class, right?

My classes took them together too. I didn’t know until recent times that Americans take classes mixed. I don’t know about the UK, tho.

My public school definitely not lol.
My mom worked at a boarding school, and I attended for two years when I was in high school.
There wasn't really a 'house system' per say - but each 'dorm' was named after something. Cochran, Pinebrook, Kindell, Chippewa, etc. It really didn't mean anything lol.

Oh I mean in terms of like activities and stuff. Some of the dorms had like 6 people in them - while Pinebrook was ALL THE GIRLS. So it was really unbalanced lol

The school is in the woods, so Pinebrook since it's by a creek. Chippewa is the Native American tribe up in my state. The rest are named after long time founders of the school. As in their last names.

in my high school we dont have the house system, we used the block/period system

my current school doesn't but my previous school had a housing system which consisted of animal representatives, lmao gotta love the furry life
