The excited to see you part is so accurate. When coming back from a walk my dog goes in the upstairs door while the rest of us go through the downstairs one (we trained her to not go downstairs). So obviously she sees us really recently because we separate when we reach the downstairs one while she continues to the upstairs one. When she gets inside she runs to the stairs to eagerly await the person/people who go through the downstairs one even though she saw them less than a minute ago 
I guess she thinks we might get lost in the garage or something
