Exactly, they’re not clinical by any means. In the justice system here you can plead “insanity” as a reasonable defense.

I’m pretty sure psychotic is a clinical term. For example, from a webpage from Mayo Clinic: “Psychotic disorders cause detachment from reality — such as delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized thinking and speech.” In casual speech it has a different definition, maybe that’s what you meant?
