also, i dont think in this context-optimistic is equivalent to hopefulness. re: im (sally in this case) hopeful tat my answer is correct, but im not optimistic based on the replies to my thread. see how u can be hopeful but not optimistic in my sentence. dictionary (thesaurus/synonym) definitions dont account for nuance/context in poetry or in language as used by people irl. its almost 3am here n i cant think of other examples but my previous sentence shows different usage of hopefullness/optimistism; i dont think its always interchangeable(but it depends on the interpretation of this particular poem by this teacher/the answerbook, so dont take my word for it.its subjective.

We had whole passages like that. everyone could have had different intrepetations of it but only one answer will be correct, which is sooooo unfair and illogical

like many students including me, had like 9-10 questions wrong in our paper which is like insanity

No hun, so being unsure but optimistic is meaning you do not know what will happen but have faith it will be good, while being hopeful but not confident is you hoping something turns out well but knowing it more than likely will end bad.
