Gypsy Rose Blanchard is someone who had a mother who decided to fake that Gypsy had a series of illnesses that would make her (the mother) get sympathy and attention for taking care of a sick child. Her claims started with her baby supposedly having sleep apnea to claiming that she had leukemia and muscular dystrophy and had to have a wheelchair and a feeding tube. This would increase to seizures, asthma, and hearing and visual impairments. The family would receive a bunch of gifts, including the house that they lived in in Springfield, MO and her mother would often lie about her age.

Gypsy tried to get away from her mother in 2011 with a man she met at a science fiction convention but the mother found out about it through some friends and smashed her daughter's computer, physically restrained her to her bed, and Gypsy said that her mom refuse her daughter food and would hit her. The mother convinced everyone that her daughter was a minor even though she was 19 at the time.

Gypsy eventually found a way to get back online and met a guy on a Christian dating site who exposed the truth about her mother, and later asked him to help k()ll her mother so that they could be together. They then k!lled her mother in June 2015 and ran to his house in Wisconsin where they were later found by the police. But it seemed like she wanted to be caught because she posted on Facebook twice saying "That b*tch is dead!"

Even though Gypsy could've stood up and proved that her mother was lying, she was conditioned that no one would believe her and that she was afraid of what her mother would do. And some people speculate that her mother was suffering from a condition called Munchausen syndrome by proxy which made her fabricate her daughters' illnesses so that she could receive sympathy and attention for taking care of her "sick" child.
