Since my fellow Events member Tickita hosted her Rookie Project Event I’ve been wanting to create my own group as well because it looked really fun.

And boy it really was, just to make it clear, I didn’t do everything that was technically required during the Rookie Project, but did the majority. I spent a lot of time on this over the past few months whenever I had free time. I’ll definitely be continuing updating for this group and creating more comebacks (maybe even little stories) because it was so fun. Any Kpop Agency looking for a creative director hit me up juseyo.

Fairytale
Fairytale is a 5 member girl group under New Talent Entertainment. The group consists of members Scarlett, Rena, Elfie, Stella & Iris. Their fandom is called “Storytellers” and the groups colors are #e6be8a and #2e8b57 .
They have a fairytale concept where the members are able to travel into multiple fairytales/fictional worlds and stories, while also still living their everyday lives as normal girls. They’re capable of doing a variety of concepts/sounds.

-Elfie is considered the loudest member
-She’s the “sunshine” member and tries to keep the mood light
-She helps produce some of their songs and would one day like to produce all of the tracks on one of their albums.
-Elfie enjoys gaming, sports and sketching during their downtime
-Her favorite vocalist is SNSD’s Taeyeon
-She can play guitar and piano.

Stella
Stage Name: Stella
Real Name: Eu-Meh (pronounced YOO-Meh)
Birthday: April 27th, 2005 (21 Years Old)

-She studied ballet and has won multiple awards. She was scouted during one of her performances.
-She’s the most flexible member of the group
-Stella can speak Korean very well and according to members, people are often surprised by how good her pronunciation is.
-She’s especially close with Elfie as they both enjoy teasing their members and often consider themselves to be twins because of their similarities in personality and close birth date.
-Her goal is for them to get at least one music show win during their first year.
-She doesn’t like sour food

Iris
Stage Name: Iris
Real Name: Anchali Phutsa
Birthday: September 2, 2006 (19 Years Old)
Nationality: Thai
Position: Main Rapper, Dancer, Maknae
Height: 5’2
Representative Animal: Fawn
-Iris is the most quiet member and takes a while to open up to new people.
-She’s closest with Rena
-She enjoys gaming and baking
-She can play guitar
-Iris is often considered to be the “oldest” mentally because she generally tells her members (specifically Elfie and Stella) to calm down.
-She has two older sisters and a younger brother

Spoiler: (Sound Sample - Automatic by Red Velvet)

Red As the Rose is produced by Iris & Elfie, with lyrics by them and Rena. It’s a moody, simple RnB track with beautiful harmonies between all five members with the tempo only changing slightly in the final chorus. The rap is a calm, whispering back and forth between Iris and Rena which is then repeated again softly during the final chorus.
The song details shades of makeup as a girl is getting ready to meet someone she has a crush on.

Spoiler: (Sound Sample - Windy Day by Oh My Girl)

Treasure of Youth (title) is produced by Fairytales company producer with Rena and Iris participating with the lyrics for their rap verses. The song begins with Iris & Rena opening it up with their slow building rap verses and then dramatically switches into the first pre-chorus, it's a whimsical/acoustic track, with a heavy emphasis on violin in the chorus, in the bridge all but the violin fades out to compliment the vocalists as the song prepares for the explosive final chorus filled with loud strings and percussions.
The first half of the song talks about the pressure of growing up and wanting to stay young forever without any worries. Eventually, halfway through it begins speaking about remembering their treasured youth through their friends and imagination.

Spoiler: (Sound Sample - A Long Night by Hyuk)

FIVE is produced by Elfie, with lyrics by all of the members. It’s a simple ballad carried by a sweet and relaxing piano with only light percussion fading in and out during the last half.
FIVE details the members' dreams and sisterly bond.

Music Video
5 school classmates are silently unhappy with their current lives and secretly wish for something new and exciting. They all somehow end up serving detention together and while trying to keep busy in the classroom to pass time they discover a mysterious book.

They’re sucked into the pages and into a land of magical beings and fantastical magic. The basic concept is them going between the real world and this perfect fantasy land, building a friendship with one another and seemingly finding happiness within both worlds (finding happiness & friendship by allowing oneself to “imagine” again during the lowest points of life).

The MV will end with them having a sleepover, turning pages in the book, then flipping to a page that pictures a huntsman stabbing one of the girls (Stella) in the heart. MV ends with the following text :
“Lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow.”

1. Introduce yourself(ves).

Scarlett : 1, 2, 3
All : Hello everyone, we are Fairytale! (claps)
Scarlett: Hello, I’m Scarlett, the responsible leader, lead vocalist and lead dancer. Nice to meet you.
Rena: Hi, I’m Rena. I’m in charge of dancing and rapping.
Elfie: Hello everyone, it’s good to be here. My name is Elfie and I’m the main vocalist and dancer.
Stella: Hi, my name is Stella and I’m a vocalist and dancer.
Elfie: Visual, visual!
Stella: (laughs) I suppose that too, yes.
Iris: Hi, my name is Iris and I’m the maknae and main rapper.

1. Explain your debut single. What is it about?

Scarlett: Our debut song was created by our New Talent Producers, they worked really hard to bring out our strengths in this song. The song is essentially about… A person in their youth realizes they’re approaching adulthood and are scared to confront it because it’s a very daunting and scary time but, even in that scary time in life, the youth rediscovers that youth and innocence through their friendships and imagination. Really it shows that no matter your age, you’re still young at heart. We hope we can deliver the message well.
Iris: As the youngest I see my unnie’s go through these scenarios of realizing, “Oh wow, I’m now technically able or am expected to do this because of my age.” but generally a lot of the time they’re hesitant to take those steps because it's something really new and uncertain. I think we can all relate to it (the song) well in our own ways.

1. Fairytale’s concept is rather unique, how are you wanting to set yourself apart from other Kpop girl groups?

Rena: Our concept is basically us being able to travel into different fictional worlds and live within them while also continuing our normal lives in the real world. I think we can show many different things with this concept, but also concepts that we’re all familiar with as well. I think it can be a good balance.
Stella: Cute concept next?
Rena: C-cute?! Mmm
Elfie: Rena unnie acting cute??!
Elfie/Stella : (laughs)
Elfie: We look up to all of the other girl groups, we really want to make our sunbaenims impressed with our skills. We focus a lot on our respective positions in the group and work hard to balance each other out. I think what we can do that differentiates us from others is in this debut EP we focused a lot on our vocals, and our choreographers implement a lot of different genres into our dances.

1. Who are your favorite artists?

Iris: Taylor Swift. She’s a very good songwriter, I look up to her a lot.
Rena: Taemin and Dreamcatcher
Elfie: Taeyeon is my inspiration, I also really love Celine Dion and Adele.
Stella: I don’t listen to a particular artist to be honest (chuckles) I just listen to the radio and add whatever I like to my playlist. But if I have to pick… Fallout Boy and Imagine Dragons.
Scarlett: Bruno Mars and John Legend

1. Explain the trainee process -- how were you picked?

Scarlett: I jumped into it sort of out of the blue. After I went to a Twice concert and saw how they connected with their fans, I was so moved. I told my mom, “I want to do this” she was shocked because for years I had been working on being an actress, but she understood and said I could try for a year, if after a year I wanted to continue then I could. There was an open audition in my city, so I went on my own with what I prepared and I was contacted shortly afterwards by New Talent, our company. It was hard, the schedule was tiring, but I learned a lot and realized that this is what I wanted.
Rena: I was scouted while busking with the dance team I was in. Initially I thought it was a joke because I had actually made a lot of mistakes in our performances that day, but my friends reassured me it was in fact real. I didn’t expect to make it far in training to be honest, because I only had interest in dance, but I eventually learned about rapping and singing and grew a fondness for those as well. I’m very happy I took the chance.
Elfie: My mom had posted a video of me singing and she has a friend here in Korea who’s friends with the spouse of one of our staff. So the video eventually got passed onto this staff member who then contacted my mom and I about me becoming a trainee. I was having a hard time in school and wanted to start fresh so my mom and I moved to Korea for me to try it out. I’m very grateful for her believing in me. It was very difficult when getting used to a whole new environment but the other trainees and members really helped me every step of the way.
Stella: I was scouted during one of my ballet performances. I was really unsure of it all because I had a really promising future in ballet and my parents are really against me being an idol, but I just wanted to see what I could learn from being a trainee. I never thought I would actually debut, but it’s really amazing to me and I hope I can show my parents that my hard work is worth it.
Iris: My family is really into music, ever since I was young I loved to write song lyrics and play the guitar. My sisters encouraged me to go to an audition that New Talent had going on a few hours from where we lived. I thought the audition would be a good experience, I didn’t expect to make it but I did. (chuckles). I initially wanted to focus on singing but when I was asked to try rapping as well, I loved it so much more and the company really helped me grow in my confidence with it. To be honest I’m not good at Korean after all this time, so you can imagine how much I leaned on others for help with a lot of things. But my group mates and company take very good care of me.

1. If you weren’t an idol, what would you be doing?

Scarlett: Acting
Rena: I’m only 19 so I don’t think I’d be quite qualified to be a choreographer just yet, but working up to that definitely.
Stella: I’d be continuing my career in ballet.
Elfie: Mmm to be honest I really don’t know, before I was a trainee there was no career that really interested me…
Scarlett: No answer?
Elfie: I guess not (laughs)…Iris?
Iris: I’d still be in school so, I don’t really know.
Scarlett: Our maknae’s are slacking (laughs)
Iris: A lot of teenagers don’t know what they want to do.
Scarlett/Rena: True true

1. This question is for Iris and Elfie. How did you two become the two who help with creating songs?

Elfie: Our company offers a lot of different options and things for us to learn, other than dance, vocal and rap training. We were both really interested in the process of what goes into creating a song and it could make our music a lot more meaningful if we had a hand in it as well. We still lean a lot on our producers in the company for feedback.
Iris: We’re also not the only two involved in creating the music, Rena unnie writes her rap lyrics as well, Scarlett unnie has actually a few unreleased songs and Stella unnie is currently learning as well.

1. Any talents, or charms?

Rena: Elfie and Iris have the same charming feature. Round baby face.
Iris: Y-your talent, not ours.
Rena: You two choose my talent or charming point then.
(quiet)
Rena: Nevermind (laughs)
Elfie: No, no! You have a lot of charming points.
Rena: What is it?
Elfie: Tall?
All: (laughs)
Rena: That’s not a talent
Stella: Yes it is, whenever Elfie or Iris need something from the top shelf (*mimicking* “Rena unnie, Rena unnie”)
Rena: (laughs) let’s move on.

1. Who would you love to collaborate with?

Elfie: Shinee sunbaenim!
Iris: Don’t yell (laughs)
Elfie: I got excited sorry (laughs) I’d be honored to just share a stage with them.
Stella: Lindsey Stirling. She’s an amazing performer.

1. How did you feel after performing on your debut stage?

Scarlett: I think we all felt a sense of relief, it may not have been a perfect time getting ready for our debut, there’s a lot of stress when preparing and sometimes we may get into disagreements. But by the end of our stage I think we all felt, “All of those hardships were worth this. We did it.”
Rena: I agree with Scarlett unnie.
Stella: I wanted to perform again (laughs) my nervousness was gone by the end of the stage so I thought “What’s next?” It was exciting.
Elfie: To be honest I don’t remember much of our performance, I was so focused on singing alright and hitting my marks so it wasn’t until the lights went out that I thought “We did it.”
Iris: I was really proud of myself and my members. It made me excited for the rest of our promotions.

1. What are your goals as an idol?

Rena: I think we want to add something to the table, we don’t want to be forgotten. I want people to look back on influential groups and include us in their conversation.
Stella: While also being a good idol, I also want to be someone who can bring just a little bit of happiness to someone’s day. If I can do that, then I’ve achieved my goal.

1. Anything final you’d like to say to everyone reading this interview?

Iris: Me? Why?
Scarlett: We have to end with the cutest.

Fairytale performance outfits for Waterbomb Festival 2024.
They would have performed their dance pop track “Wishing Well” before doing an energetic cover of Mamamoo’s “Egotistic”.

I wasn’t too worried about keeping it cohesive, just tried to show their own styles and make sure Iris was given something age appropriate but also fitting the event.
