You know, I find it so weird how someone can ship two idols of the same sex together but then if they actually came out, they would be bullied, ridiculed, hated, etc.
So, what is the actual deal with people having this type of mindset? How can you want two people together in your little fantasy world but when it's actually a reality, they are cancelled, or whatever?

You see, I sometimes ship two idols together, although, it's not just any two idols and I don't confirm that they are definitely together lol more like, if they have the chemistry, connection, very close, then in my mind, I can see how good they would be together as a couple, but we all know it is very unlikely to happen and I accept that.

I'm also a part of the lgbtq+ as well, so seeing two people of the same sex being so close like that is heartwarming to me.

But why do people ship two idols in their dreams and then if it's real, they condemn them?

This is sexualizing people's sexuality and being homophobic.

If you are going to be into a same-sex pairing, then at least accept them for who they are.

Holland who is an openly gay idol, a transgender group called Lady back in the early 2000's, Som Hein who was on Idol School came out as Bisexual, another female idol (forgotten her name) also came out as bisexual, Yoohyeon from Dreamcatcher also came out when asked what man she liked and she corrected the MC and said that she likes all kinds of people. Yerin from Gfriend said she likes pretty girls.

Eunha hinted that she prefers Unnies more:


A male idol came out as asexual.

oh well, I don´t follow female idols so I have no idea. I personally think international fans wouldn´t care about boy groups as they just think most of them are gay or bisexual or at least they do behave so. there will always be closeminded people but you can´t change the world overnight. they will always be supportive fans too.

if that´s so, good for her :). no other way to find a girlfriend and happiness if you can´t be true to yourself. there are always dumb people everywhere. I hope she is safe though.

some people are just hypocrites, is there a cure for it though? no, but who has patience for all that eyerolling :D

I don't mean to be rude, but saying you like all kinds of people is not the same as coming out unless you specifically state you're a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Plenty of idols have said similar, but it does not mean they're queer. Unless they denote their sexuality, you're still making an assumption. Also the male idol who came out as ace no longer identifies that way, as far as I know.

People can ship and be homophobic because a lot of religions specifically condemn homosexuality. Fictional homosexuality is fine, but once it's real, it means they're going against god or whatever. I don't pretend to know how homophobes work.

That doesn't really change anything, it's still not proof. You have to remember, these are idols, it is their job to be inclusive of all fans. It's marketing.

You have a point, but when you get to know idols, you get a vibe from them. Also, not every idol is straight, so we shouldn't really assume everyone is straight, just like we shouldn't assume people are a part of the LGBTQ.
I mean, Yoohyeon could also be just really accepting, I mean, she's also worn a Trans awareness pin badge before, but why would she go through all of this risk just to be accepting this much unless she has a gay sibling if she wasn't a part of the LGBTQ+ herself?

Not to mention, there are also openly homophobic idols as well.

Just because you get a "vibe" doesn't necessarily mean anything, feelings aren't facts. As for not assuming everyone's straight, the fact of the matter is that the majority of people in Korea are straight, so it's not a harmful assumption, whereas being LGBTQIA+ in Korea and being out can truly harm a career/mental health/life. As for why anyone would "go through all the risk" there's zero real risk in being an ally, and it's actually great from a marketing standpoint. The more emotionally invested you are in an idol, the more you feel you "connect" with them, the more effort you are willing to spend supporting them. My guess is you don't fully grasp how common it is for idols to be inclusive of all genders & supportive of the queer community. It's honestly easier to point out the homophobic idols than the allies at this point.

So, where do you get that the majority of Koreans are straight when not many have even come out yet? Like I said before, not everyone is straight and in fact, there are a lot more people who are LGBTQ than you think, but of course, coming out is extremely hard, especially in a conservative country like Korea.

And as for romanticizing someone's sexuality, people get romanticized all the time in straight relationships, even if they are not straight, do you not see the problem with this also?

You're making very heavy assumptions about people you don't know at all and their relationships and judging them based on that, how is it any different? The first part of the discussion I get, because tons of shippers are homophobes and people should accept idols as they are, but it's just as hypocritical to insist, especially as a queer person yourself, another person's sexuality based on some vague statements made to cameras during the workday. Both are toxic viewpoints with different ramifications and social stigma attached.

I think you have misunderstood my OP point, maybe I didn't explain it properly because by your description, you're saying that I'm just doing the same thing as what I'm condemning people for but in a different way, which I didn't mean to make it come across that way.
