Chapter 9

After that night’s show, Luke invited Zoe to get some ice cream. “You could meet Ashton’s girlfriend, too,” he said.

“Oh, okay!” Zoe agreed. “What’s her name?”

“Kirsten Lancaster; she’s an old classmate of his.”

“I already can’t wait – let’s go!”

Luke took Zoe to a Cold Stone just off the interstate, where they met up with Ashton and his girlfriend. The girl was brunette and about college age. She was curvy with a petite frame, and when she smiled, Zoe immediately saw what Ashton must’ve seen in her.

“Hey, Ash… Kirsten,” Luke greeted them. “This is my date, Zoe Olson. Zoe, Kirsten Lancaster.”

“It’s nice to meet you!” Kirsten said to Zoe as they shook hands. Her Australian accent was still thick despite having moved to America years ago.

“You, too,” Zoe returned.

After they got their ice cream, and Luke paid for all, the four of them sat down to eat and chat.

“How did you and Ashton meet, Kirsten?” Zoe prompted.

“We were mates from year 1,” Kirsten said. “He’d chase me around the playground during recess, always share with me at lunch… and then, in middle school, we started dating.”

“Oh, that had to be an awkward stage, going from friends to dating.”

Ashton laughed. “Yes, it was a bit awkward at first,” he said. “But we adjusted rather quickly, and when she moved here to the States, at the same time I dropped out for the band, we made a pact to wait for each other.”

“And were you able to keep that pact?” Then, Zoe blushed with embarrassment. Of course, they did, if they were together today. “Oh… sorry, new mom brain.”

“You’re fine,” Kirsten said. “We’re parents as well, to a little girl called Ruby. She’s two years old now.”

“Oh, I have a daughter, too! Her name is Adeline, but she goes by Addie. I had her earlier this week.”

Kirsten’s face lit up. “Oh, is that who you have in the car seat? What a cutie!”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome! So, Luke tells me you two met at Cracker Barrel. How did you manage that?”

“I don’t know, it just happened. We were just both at the right place at the right time.”

“I thought her brother was her boyfriend at first because I saw two menus on her table,” Luke added.

“Yeah, he was using the men’s room when you saw me,” Zoe said to Luke.

“That makes sense. So, what are you doing for school now that you’re a mum?”

“I don’t know,” Zoe confided. “I was thinking of dropping out and just getting my GED later on.”

“Or you could do what I did,” Kirsten said. “You could take online classes. That way, you’ll be able to balance mum life and school life.”

“That’s true. And maybe you could give me some pointers on raising Addie.”

“Of course! I love your accent, by the way. Where are you from?”

“Shepherdsville, Kentucky, just south of Louisville.”

“I’m from Hornsby, New South Wales, just northwest of Sydney.”

“That’s cool.”

“Kirsten, is that ice cream on your lips?” Ashton asked his girlfriend. “I can wipe it off for you.”

“Ashton, not now!” Kirsten protested. “There are children.”

“What, a bloke can’t kiss a chick in public?”

Ashton leaned in, cupped Kirsten’s chin in his hand, and gave her a passionate kiss on the lips. Unable to resist the taste, Kirsten leaned into the kiss as well, and next thing, they were making out on the floor.

“Er, y’all need to get a room,” a passing employee said when she saw the couple practically having sex in the middle of Cold Stone. “We can’t have this behavior.”

Kirsten and Ashton froze for a second before Ashton helped her stand up. He cleared his throat and asked Kirsten if she wanted to go back to the room.

“Yes, I’d love to,” Kirsten said. “I hope Zoe and Luke don’t mind.”

“Nah, go ahead,” Luke said.

Just then, a familiar song came over the speakers in the ice cream parlor. It was the same song Luke and Zoe had heard when they walked into the seafood place. Luke smiled when she did.

“You like this song,” he assumed.

“Isn’t this the same song we heard at the seafood place?” Zoe asked.

Luke gasped. “Oh, yeah – it’s the one we heard on our way in! You have a good memory.”

“Thank you. I wonder, how good is yours?”

Luke laughed. “Well, I remember every lyric to every song we’ve performed. I kind of have to, though, so I don’t screw up onstage.”

“Well, you don’t have that much material yet, so that’s not surprising. What color was my dress?”

“Mint green,” Luke said confidently. “And before that, you were wearing pink. Now, what was I wearing at the concert, since you were so into me?”

“Easy! You were rocking a Radiohead tee and ripped jeans.”

“You’re pretty smart. Speaking of smarts, what was your favorite school subject?”

“Chorus, math, and Spanish. I’ve always loved to sing, especially, so chorus was right up my alley.”

“Would you ever consider becoming a singer?”

“Not really. I just sing for fun.”

Luke laughed. “That’s basically how our band started out. We didn’t initially want to become famous, but then we got discovered by Louis Tomlinson. From then on, it was game over!”

“I will not – I still have to finish school and raise Addie!”

“I dare you to sing.”

“Not in public!”

“Yes, in public! I’m going to find a karaoke bar and take you there.”

Before Zoe could protest, Luke planted a juicy kiss on her lips. Like Kirsten did with Ashton, Zoe was unable to resist and reciprocated. When they pulled away, Luke said, “Now will you sing karaoke for me?”

“Wow… you’re a really good kisser! Okay, I’ll do it.”

I ended up changing my mind about the end of the chapter. Instead of him asking her what her favorite subject is, her saying chorus, and him daring her to sing in public, I made it a little more... interesting. :jenniesmug:

“Yeah, her name is Aurora. She goes by Rory-Mae, though.”

“Well, she’s a cutie!”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome! So, Luke tells me you two met at Cracker Barrel. How did you manage that?”

“What else do you like in a girl?” Zoe wanted to know.

“Well, I like a girl with a sense of humor who likes the same things I do and has a similar personality.”

“So, what would you say is your personality type?”

“I’m very much a hopeless romantic. You already know about my bad luck with girls, right?”

“I do, yeah. Marcus was my first relationship, so I can’t really say the same.” Zoe sighed. “We were supposed to get engaged and married after high school and save up enough money to buy our own house.”

“Hey, don’t be sad! You’ve got me now! Where’s that smile I love so much?” Zoe slowly offered Luke a smile. “There it is!”

Watching Zoe lick away at her ice cream cone made Luke want more of her. Not just another date, but MORE. More, as in wanting to kiss her. He knew he shouldn’t go too far because Zoe was still a student and already a mother, but… good God, he just wanted a taste of those lips!

“Zo?” Luke asked.

“Hmm?” Zoe said licking her lips for ice cream remnants. This made Luke feel something… down there.

Oh, hell no! He could feel himself getting hard, and he didn’t like it. He knew his boundaries with Zoe, and his body was currently going in the completely wrong direction for abstinence.

@Nevermind_Nezuko I made some more changes, such as not having Calum develop a crush on Cassie and changing the baby's name. I think I'll save the former for later when they're in the same city for a longer period of time (so they'll therefore have more time to flirt and go on their first date), and as for the latter, I already have a kid named Addie in another fanfic and am trying to steer away from repeating names. I'm also just an indecisive bitch in general :runrunrun:

Chapter 10

“Is something wrong, Luke?” Zoe asked with concern.

“No, no… it’s okay. Keep eating.”

Zoe let her eyes drift, and they eventually landed on a large lump in Luke’s pants. Then, she suddenly started to feel hot with passion. She was even more turned on with Luke than she was with Marcus, but not unlike Luke, she also knew her boundaries, especially considering her dad wouldn’t approve of her having two kids in her teens.

Zoe felt her nipples hardening and her lady parts contracting. Her heart was telling her to defy him and get laid, but her head was telling her not to.

Ah, to hell with it.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you want me,” Luke said.

“I was about to say the same about you,” Zoe said. “Do you think we should…”

“Only if you feel comfortable.”

“Let’s blow this pop stand and go to the hotel.”

Luke gasped. “You’re for real?”

“I mean it. To be honest, who cares what my dad will think? Like I said, he’s not the biggest fan of being a young grandpa, but he’ll get used to it.”

Zoe and Luke ended up having sex until two in the morning and then fell asleep in each other’s arms. When she woke up at 5:30 to Rory-Mae crying, Zoe found herself wearing Luke’s shirt from last night. Luke chuckled when she discovered this.

“You’re welcome,” he said in a sexy morning voice as Zoe rolled out of bed. “I saw you were cold, so I put it on you. You’re a heavy sleeper, you know that?”

Zoe chuckled as well. “Well… not heavy enough to miss Rory-Mae’s cries.”

“Come here, baby girl,” she soothed to alleviate Rory-Mae’s tears. “Shh, shh, shh…”

Once Rory-Mae calmed down, Zoe laid her on the changing table provided by the hotel staff and changed her diaper.

“Luke, would you look in my tote bag and find my nursing cover?” Zoe requested.

Luke stretched and yawned, then got out of bed. “Yeah, sure.”

Luke rummaged through Zoe’s tote bag and came across a purple crocheted blanket. He took a moment to feel its texture; whoever had crocheted this for Rory-Mae had done a great job.

“This one?” he asked, holding up the blanket.

“Yeah, thanks.” Zoe took it and wrapped it around her body before sitting down with Rory-Mae in her arms.

“How did you sleep?” Zoe asked Luke as she watched him pick out his clothes for the day.

“I slept well, thank you,” he said. “Do you want to come with us for some breakfast? There’s a really nice breakfast joint on the way out of town called The Early Bird.”

“I’d love that,” Zoe agreed. “But don’t they have breakfast here?”

Luke laughed. “Nah, too cheap for us. We never eat hotel food because, to be completely honest, outside food is better anyway.”

Zoe cocked her head to one side, then the other. “I can’t argue with that.”

“Good morning,” the hostess at the restaurant greeted the party of six in front of her. This particular restaurant was indeed on the way to Washington; it was located in a town called Zebulon. “Six of y’all?”

“Yes,” Luke said.

The hostess grabbed six menus and told them to follow her. Once they were seated, they had a discussion over what to eat. They eventually settled on biscuits and gravy for the girls; eggs, bacon, and toast for Luke and Ashton; and Belgian waffles for Michael and Calum.

“So, Cal and I heard sexy noises last night,” Michael said, breaking the ice. “Who was having sex?”

“Me and Luke,” Zoe said.

“And so were Ashton and I,” Kirsten added.

“Lucky girl!” Calum said to Zoe. “How was he?”

“Oh, he’s amazing in bed,” Zoe replied. “He’s better than my ex ever was.”

“How so?” Ashton asked.

“Marcus didn’t have as much sex drive. It’s actually a wonder I was able to get pregnant from it.”

When the waitress came, she stopped in her tracks. Zoe was then led to assume she was another fan.

“Oh, my God, it IS you!” she exclaimed. “When my boss told me 5 Seconds of Summer were at Table 8, I didn’t believe her because nobody famous ever comes here!”

“Yes, that’s us,” Luke said. “Did you see us performing last night?”

“I sure did – y’all were phenomenal! So, I’m Morgan, and I’ll be taking care of y’all this morning. Can I get you some drinks? Coffee, sweet tea?”

The six of them placed their food and drink orders and continued the conversation.

“That waitress looks pretty cute,” Luke said to Michael. “Why don’t you chat to her?”

Michael shook his head. “I wouldn’t know what to say.”

“You can start by complimenting her. Is there something about her that makes you want to get to know her?”

Michael’s jaw dropped. “Well, look at you with that relationship advice!” he praised.

Zoe shrugged. “My brother taught me everything I know. It’s not that shocking. Also, I’d been with Marcus since middle school, so I know a thing or two from that experience, too. So, what is it about our waitress that you like?”

“Her smile,” Michael said dreamily. “I could kiss those lips right now if she’d let me.”

“That’s a start!” Luke said. “Then, you can ask for her number.”

“Just don’t use a pickup line,” Zoe added. “Those are the lamest forms of flattery.”

“Gotcha.”
