Finding Boy Group biases as a Girl Group lover (1 Viewer)

kpop is very male dominated. In general, the boy groups are run by men, and the girl groups are run by men. Boy groups cater to female fans mostly, but with girl groups things get weird. The sexualized girl groups are for men obviously, but the girl groups targeting females are also targeting men in a weird way? Again, men are mostly behind girl groups, not always, but a lot of them are. And all of it seems sexualized in one way or another.

In any case, there’s also this strange stigma of boy groups having “crazy fangirls” which sure that could be true, but I’ve come to the slow realization that many people AVOID boy groups because of this “fangirl” concept, which included myself until recently.

And yes boy groups cater to the female audience but I think avoiding them altogether as a guy (straight guy specifically) is denying an entire side of kpop that’s also important. It’s that very sexualization that keeps me from crossing to the other side, since I’m not attracted to guys I prefer girl groups, buuuuttt…

Here I am making a very “loose” bias list for a couple of boy groups that I know. Key word “loose” because these are the members who stuck out to me the most through their performances and fancams but I don’t know much beyond that (for girl groups I’ll do performances + personality = bias).

For anyone too dedicated to one gender in kpop I highly recommended reaching out to the other side even if it hurts because you’re missing out on good music/talent on BOTH sides.

I still admire the work each group puts in because I know it's a lot. I used to be a BG stan during 2nd gen but the tides have changed for me.

oh but this ^^^ certainly imo. i do prefer gg music for a variety of reasons, but at the end of the day for me, kpop's just music i like, which could be release either by a male or a female artist
