First day back at college (1 Viewer)

THIS IS MY UPDATE THREAD.

Overall: College was GOOD. Work was BAD.

I had three classes today, the first one I really enjoyed and I have no complaints there. My second class... that's where it went downhill. My second class was speech, and our professor decided that we were all going to do a speech the first day. I hate public speaking, but since we were all doing it and it wasn't a formal setting, of course I'm all for the exposure therapy despite the fact that my heart was pounding, I started sweating, and my legs wouldn't stop shaking until 2 hours later.

Our task was simple: get in groups of two, take 10 minutes to talk to this person, and then you'll get up in pairs and introduce the other person to the rest of the class. I got partnered with someone who... was odd, to say the least. When I turned around and asked her if she wanted to partner, she kind of nodded and didn't seem fully sure. I asked her her name, she told me it, and then silence. Silence. I introduced myself and we started talking, I took the lead and asked her her hobbies/what year she graduated/if this was her first semester there. I talked to her and asked her questions for about seven minutes. She never once asked me a single question.

I ended up taking her paper and writing down two things of nonsense (our task was to ask 2 open ended questions, ie not a yes/no question, something that has more substance). When it came time to presenting, I like going early because the longer I have to wait and think about it the more anxious I get. She didn't want to go, I ended up standing up 2nd to last and forcing her up with me. I wanted to go sooner but she wouldn't do it. She told me to introduce her first, so I did. I went on about her hobbies, what she likes to do in her free time and how it relates to what she did in high school, that she didn't like her job but it paid enough for her to be content. And then, when she goes to introduce me, she goes "This is Daiisy, she likes [hobby I gave her] and really likes her job at [location].

SHE DID NOT DO ME JUSTICE! I AM MORE THAN THAT!

I do not want to be her partner in the future.

My last class of the day was really really boring and it didn't help that I got a MASSIVE headache during it.

Work after was really bad. I was angry the entire time I was there. I pissed off some customers and told everyone I was pissed off. I hate having to be coverage. Hire someone else to do the damn job I demoted myself from, there's a reason I left! I'm so overworked and stressed out why can't I be left alone.

Aw, I'm sorry you had a rough day, Dais! My biggest college regret was signing up for accounting: "It's basically all math," Mom said. "It'll be fun," she said. Well, she couldn't be more wrong. It was harder than rocket science, and even the tutor couldn't help me. In the end, I dropped out and never went back.

Awhh Daisy I'm so sorry to read this. I totally get you with the public speech thingy. I'm so anxious for that. But at least I'd make some effort to properly introduce my partner But maybe give her 1 more chance in the future. Maybe she's just a hardcore introvert like me, and eventually she'll open up a bit (or not lol). But I do understand your frustration and not wanting to partner up with her anymore.
Glad you liked the first class and hopefully it'll even get more fun!

I also get your frustrations at work lol. I had one too today with a customer. What an asshole was that.
I feel like your work is a bad environment for you tho, and causing you to have stress. Of course I don't know the full picture so I can't really tell. But I just wanna say rethink your choices as to your work before it's too late and you really get overworked or maybe even a burnout.

I didn’t like the next day either much, but I’m just glad choreo is over for this year.
I got a very long sleep last night, now I’m back to being excited about an upcoming trip

I have to work over there again Friday morning and probably minimum the next two weeks as well. I just hope they stop giving me long shifts and give me something more manageable, like 5 hour shifts. Bite sized, you know?

Not when I'm helping cover for them. I work whatever my GM tells me he needs covered.
