This is the flag of Jamaica. It was picked as the national flag in 1962, when Jamaica became independent. An interesting distinction is that it is the only country flag to not use any red, white, or blue.
The colors of the flag have had 2 similar interpretations. In 1962, the interpretation given was that "hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth". This would mean that the black is the hardships, while the green is land and sunshine yellow. In 1996, it was altered and said that black stood for strength and creativity of the people, gold was sunshine and wealth, and green was abundant vegetation and hope.
I think the 1962 meaning is interesting. It could be seen as dismissive or motivating I suppose
