I didn’t realize quite how bad the distortion is, ofc I knew it was pretty distorted but not so much Though I do have questions about this (and some of the comments too)

Oh, what it means is that since the earth is a sphere, the 2d map has to be distorted to be able to find on a 2d rectangle. Nearer to the poles on a map sizes get disproportionately big compared to countries near the equator (especially the northern hemisphere and Antarctica. On this map you can see the size of countries approximately on the distorted map and a less distorted sized map (size wise). Light blue is the typical distorted, the fragmented small dark blue has a more accurate sized countries comparison wise. This is all to the best of my knowledge, I’m not an expert about this topic, I just know the basics.
