You just reminded me that my mom and I went for dim sum at Landmark in Sunnybank & she ordered this shrimp and mushroom dish that was shrimp gelatin on a mushroom top and my poor mom who was raised in the deep south about puked in the restuarant lol.

yeah dim sum can be a daunting first experience for those who go without proper "knowledge" (aka a chinese friend lol)

I'm much more adventurous than my family though & I was lucky enough to have the rest of my flatmates be Chinese so whenver we'd go to Fresco or another Chinese supermarket they'd help me pick out stuff they thought I'd like & sometimes it was really bizarre things like shark fin flavoured gluten lol

ok not really it's expensive as shit and its more the soup that's tasty but the shark fin ain't bad
