Full disclosure, why the concept of idol groups fascinated me in the first place (1 Viewer)

I posted a topic on the Anime section a while ago explaining where and when I knew about idols for the first time, main reason why when I knew about Korean idols, I went forward to check kpop out. It was this one:

However, there is more. There is a reason why I was fascinated at learning about Japanese idols in an anime movie.

Spoiler: full disclosure

During my years as a teenager, I was obsessed with this group. It was the years from 1979 to 1984. Their success, as well the depiction of the life of an idol on that movie, brought memories from this group. In addition the lineup of five young boys singing and dancing to a prerecorded track is just too similar to my first kpop group, KNK.

I'm not sure about the rotating part but yes, Ricky Martin started as part of Menudo and became the most famous of them. Other members are very successful as well but not in the same way as Ricky.

Kpop as well as jpop groups distribute the lyrics among the members. In the case of Menudo, there was one member who did the lead vocals on a song while the rest of it did some backing vocals and choruses. Some members acted as lead vocals more often than others. They had a graduating system (at least in the beginning) where each member had to leave the group upon reaching a certain age.

I'm not sure about the rotating part but yes, Ricky Martin started as part of Menudo and became the most famous of them. Other members are very successful as well but not in the same way as Ricky.

Ricky Martin entered the group to replace Ricky Meléndez, the last one of the original lineup.

Shortly after Ricky Martin joined the group, I slowly lost interest. I think the last to join before I completely lost interest was Roy Roselló. Discovering heavy metal was the last nail in that coffin.
