By default psychopaths don't feel any empathy for those around them, however when shown a painful event and asked to feel for the person involved the situation their brains were able to. Generally if shown an event and not asked to feel empathetic their brain wouldnt process any empathy at all.

I always thought that psychopaths just felt a lot of rage and even excitement when they repeatedly kill or harm an animal or human. Psychopaths can continuously go around killing, beating, and torturing animals and humans like it's nothing. The fact that they can actually choose when to feel remorse is kind of freaky to me.

So psychopaths can feel emotion if they want to?
They can always feel emotions to an extent, just not as strongly as others. They can share the experiences and empathize with others if theyre asked to though.

:welp:

No

They do have a tendency to feel negative emotions more so than positive ones. They can also do such things when they choose not to feel empathy. Excitement not so much, and they dont tend to feel remorse just because they dont see a reason to empathize. Their default state is not to, and i think many would like to keep it that way because of the advantages it gives in life.

I'm still learning about psychopaths, okay? :welp:

By excitement, I meant that they might get some sort of rush from committing a violent act. I understand that they feel more negative emotions rather than positive emotions. It's weird how they just choose to not feel empathy. Then again, I guess it is their default state. :/

I have that. Does that mean I'm a psychopath?
No but you could be one. Psychopaths is just the more known term; there are many other terms (such as sociapath) as well. However, being a psychopath doesn't make you dangerous. It's more of a stereotype that all psychopaths are killers.

Rather then feel emotions, psychopaths actually look at other people's reactions to build a sort of dictionary in their head of how one should react to a certain emotion. They create masks over their real selves in order to seem like 'normal' people. So you never really know if someone who you know is a pschopath if they are good at hiding it. I'm quite interested in the subject so I've done some research but I'm just at the beginnning and there is much more to psychopaths than we think.
