This is a comedy style Korea likes and is on quite a few shows, it's a questionable style when situations like this occur where idols seem to be actually hurt but it was likely just for the show and hard to gauge if the people are really xenophobic.

I know you mean no harm but I would really appreciate if you referred to the person and not the group as whole. It's just Shindong, not the whole of Suju. I completely agree that he took the 'joke' too far though. It's disappointing.

Shindong is not the only member that I consider problematic in Suju but I agree with you. Some members are very unproblematic.

I don't know if commenting on someone's skills at language xenophobic per say? More like rude and dismissive. Or I mean it can be xenophobic if you are bashing someones accent or not letting them speak, or even refusing to speak to them back, but from the clip it does just seem bit rude, like it's snarky comment.

She clearly felt uncomfortable. It's sad because she works hard to learn the language and she improved a lot since going to Korea. I know it's a commedy show,, but it stops being funny when you hurt someone instead of making him/her laugh.

So, maybe these guys were just being Xenophobic without realising it, but it still looked like it hurt her.

I'd rather watch the whole episode first, only a few seconds out of context is too quick to make a judgment.
And this show basically is built on people making fun of each other. That doesn't mean Shindong might not have gone too far, but we don't even get to see Shuhua's reaction here so I don't wanna reach a conclusion just yet.

I agree, but I don't think commenting on someone's language skills is necessary xenophobic although it might be. I mean speaking foreign language is skill and you can be different levels of good at it and you might get criticised for your lack of skills or praised for ur skills. Similar as another skill like drawing or swimming. But I guess what can make it xenophobic is reason why someone would comment on your language skills and them being bad? For example someone refusing to speak with you cause you don't sound like native speaker does and they don't like ur accent? That would be xenophobic to me.

Whilst it is rude, I know it's just Korea's humor.
People tend to forget that humor is different in every country (if this triggers you, then you wouldn't last a day here tbh).
Also, we don't see her reaction here. Maybe she herself found it funny?
I do know that most foreign idols are probably aware of their type of humor.
Koreans really think "as a foreigner, you have to behave as a Korean, we will not treat you any differently".

I agree with you.
I think that why I thought it was Xenophobic was not because Shuhua's language skills may not be the best (and she probably most likely knows that), but it's the way they were mocking her and although she said she found that it wasn't difficult to talk on entertainment shows, they seemed to belittle what she said by saying that it was hard for them to listen.
Although it may have been a joke, I have learned that most of the time, people who tell the joke think there is some or even a little truth to it and hearing this joke could mean a loss of confident for Shuhua as she may see some truth in the joke herself.
Whether it's Xenophobic or not, I'm not really sure as like people have said, it's a part of their culture and most people get roasted, but if you come from another country and someone makes fun of your language skills, even when you have tried so hard to make it better, it could put you back a bit.
