I don’t doubt that there is a reason for it, but what changes if the US lists them as endangered, given that there aren’t any US states or territories with giraffes? Does it affect commerce or other stuff?

Maybe it's like a call to action or it affects the giraffes they have in zoos? I'm not sure what they can do about this besides raising more giraffes in captivity

Apparently it changes commerce regarding animals or animal products within the US, and can affect funding for research and conservation efforts worldwide and stuff
