In the 17th and 18th centuries, body snatching was common. One reason was that medical students and researchers needed fresh bodies to study and experiment on. To counter these body snatchers, some graveyards had guard stations in case an illegal body snatcher tried to steal bodies from the graveyard.

Indeed. And sometimes students were required to source their own cadavers. Just imagine that on a supplies list for uni. Notebooks, textbooks, fresh human bodies….

If it helps, body snatching is less of an issue now due to refrigeration. So you’re not likely to run into guards anymore
