I’m still going through the “oh wow I’m an adult” phase 3 almost 4 years later Most of my friends I met through school have children or have like these fancy adult jobs and here I am definitely not doing those things

HAHA I could imagine! I'm barely processing that I'm an adult even though my parents have been saying it for the past 2-3 years ("you're almost going to be an adult! You have to be prepared!!"). But yeah, I get that. It's stigmatized to not have a plan when you turn 18 but that's a lot of pressure for someone who's only an adult legally (depending on where you live, ofc, but in most places).

Yeah but like I said, there shouldn't really be any. I kind of hate how in America they're kind of just like "okay, so you're 18 now. You can make your own decisions and you're on your own!"

You typically get so much support from age 0-17 and then you go from that to being pretty independent. And they don't even really teach you how to do that in school. All you're learning in high school years is getting prepared for college even though less than half is not going to college (that's still a lot.)

I turned 18 during the school year, so I'm still getting support from my parents and am going to college after my senior year (this year) but my brother is only 13 (so he won't have to worry about this for another few years) but is a summer baby and he doesn't fancy the idea of college. They've already said that if he doesn't go to college after high school, he's on his own which I think is pretty weird. (of course, they wouldn't abandon him completely, but he'll probably have to live on his own and do all of that stuff)

I don't blame you LOL! Kids are a LOT of work. I want to become a parent one day but only when I'm ready. I would hate to be rushed into it or be pushed to do it when I don't want to.
