Make sure you pick a non resource intensive gif, a long one is technically a video which would not work and fail when uploading to our forum.

Animated GIF editor and GIF maker
Personally i will head over to this section on ezgif Animated GIF optimizer (free online tool) and use drop frames method & select remove every 2nd frame. After that i will optimize it by selecting lossy gif & set the slider to around 30 - 35 to reduce its size. What works for me might not for you, so just experiment and do it by trial & error.

- Anything below 20 frames will have a good chance to upload successfully.
- Make sure you optimize the image to be below 800kb.
- Upload the gif & wait till the page refresh with your new display picture, dont reload page manually. If it fails (you will get a security error pop up), optimize it more or remove more frames.
