Alexander Hamilton was one of the founding fathers of the US. He died at a fairly average age for the time from a duel (47 or 49 years, approximately). However, his wife Eliza lived for a much longer time, passing away at 97 years old. In that time, she participated in philanthropy, such as founding orphanages and promoting education for underprivileged children. She also remained a part of the political life of the US, and before she died she met every president of the US up until Lincoln (though she met Buchanan and Lincoln before they became president, not while they were president).
