Hannibal’s successful crossing of the Alps in 218 BCE is a very famous military maneuver, and for good reason. What’s much less known is the his brother Hasdrubal also successfully crossed the Alps in 207 BCE as part of a plan to meet up with Hannibal in Italy. However, unlike Hannibal, Hasdrubal was defeated quickly after he reemerged in Italy. He was then beheaded and his head was thrown over the wall of Hannibal’s camp.
