my black caregiver wore a Jundteenth t-shirt today when she was working with me. if anyone here is African American, wyd to celebrate?

I take time off work. It's still new to me that it's an observed holiday in some places. I suppose there are cookouts happening.

yeah, even my black therapist canceled today's appointment lol my caregiver is at a Juneteenth party which I didn't care to go to, since I'd probably be the only white person there.

It seems very inconsistent. I have the day off work, but one of my friends who works for the government doesn't. But another friend in a different government department does... One of the local bookstores is closed, another just posted "come see our display."

I hope all who were looking forward to the day can have the time and space and community to celebrate.

It seems like non essential federal employees should have the day off. Non federal government workers aren’t ever required to be given any day off by the federal government, the required days off only apply to the federal government workers. Sometimes state government employees get state holidays off if the state says they can, but many don’t. Private employers don’t apply to any of those, that’s just the employers choice.
