Has anyone ever made you feel bad about the things you like? (1 Viewer)

I have plenty of times and it's mainly from certain family members. It's usually just them trying to show their ass in front of people, but it's still annoying to deal with. Like, it would make me feel bad about the stuff I like or like doing to the point I'd even end up crying. Thankfully my mom and brothers don't do it though, and my mom will snap at them for it.

Some examples -
I went vegan 10 years ago and of course my uncle and cousin made fun of me for it every chance they got, and made me feel ashamed and embarrassed about it.
When I got my first tattoo they made fun of that and made me end up hating it.
And if they were to find out I like kpop and anime I'm sure I'd never hear the end of that either since Asian and not American

Has anyone else has problems like this?

Yeah, I dont talk much about liking anime and kpop or else I get berated with being an adult and liking cartoons and teen boy bands.
Because Chungha singing about lingerie is very much teen boy band...
Wish people were less judgey.

As a teen and young adult, I was ridiculed for liking kpop, rock music, and Caucasian shows. Nowadays there's only maybe one person I trust to share some of my interests with. They may not like them, but at least they don't make me feel bad. I don't make them feel bad either.

My dad hates everything me and my siblings like, he constantly shuns us for our love for video games. Always asking "Yall actually like this crap" when we asked to play with him when we were younger, shuns us for liking anime, certain cartoons, and even the clothes we wear. Oh yeah and shuns us for the types of music we like too

Yeah it’s happened. Kpop is one example. Being not straight was another but that was a bit more complicated. Sometimes it wouldn’t even be directed at me because the person in question wouldn’t know I liked whatever it was, but it would still be related.

Yes. Many of my interests are seen as childish. I also had someone in one of my classes do the whole "you can't even understand them" thing when I was watching IDOT, but they're stupid so that didn't hurt my feelings. Even the teacher didn't like those kids and laughed when I insulted them lmao

i wouldn't say anything made me feel bad because i like my fave things too much to let anyone's opinion sour them for me, but as an 80s pop enthusiast i sometimes i hear older people talk about how embarassed they are about what they listened to growing up... and it's the same songs i listen to on repeat everyday with that being said, i fully embrace it all and if a song isn't a 4 minute cheesefest then i don't want it anywhere near me special thank you goes out to that netflix show i never watched about kids fighting monsters which made it cool to like old music for a while

My parents didnt like kpop but i didnt feel bad ever tbh. They just dont. Nowadays I barely talk about it irl anyway. I do feel like it mostly targets teenagers and it might seem a bit childish if i say i like kpop. I mean i know im young at heart but others may not.

It's part of the reason I'm sharing my crochet progress here. I know they would point out all my mistakes and make fun of me for even trying.

I also have a friend of 7 yrs who said that she thought ppl who like Kpop and weren't Korean were koreaboos
