this snowstorm we have right now reminds me of the Blizzard of '99. Two feet of snow blanketed the entire Midwest! I'll post a link for those who weren't alive yet at the time or who aren't American:

so you can bet that when we moved here from chilly but sunny North Carolina, we got quite a culture shock! It was below-freezing temps and already a considerable amount of snow by the time we got there. My mom was even like, "What were we thinking???" lol but now we loive it here bc the pros (better healthcare, better school systems, and close proximity to my dad's side of the family, for three) outweigh the cons.

When I was in the UAE, they closed school because of a light rain. But even though it was a super light rain the next day everything was flooded.

not in person but i always feel this way when i read about the american tipping culture. i talk shit about poland whenever they deserve it, but at the very least people here get paid by those who employ them and not the customers themselves. i love eating out, but if i were american i don't think i'd ever do it with how you're expected to pay more than your meal costs

I will never understand giving tips instead of paying the waiters what they deserve. I also will never get used to places with marketplaces where the sellers basically pressure and force you to buy stuff right in your face. Also sitting next to a stranger is weird and disgusting and even worse looking at the stranger and trying to talk with them. ofc if its in a place like airplane when there is a logic and reason that cant be avoided i understand fully
