Has kpop given very little back to black culture despite taking so much and profiting? (1 Viewer)

We all know kpop is a derivative genre based mostly on black culture in the West. Just look at the top performing girl groups now. They sample from a black artist, they use rnb and rap which originated from black musicians, they imitate the styles and mannerisms of black artists from decades ago. They sell it to kids who have very little awareness of what came before them and call them the “revolution” when they in fact invented nothing. And most of the profit goes to old Korean men and their white business partners in America. They made some mention of a few black artists they got inspired from and pay for royalties when necessary, but considering the bank they are making it feels very disproportionate to what the black community is getting based on the fruits of their labor.

100% agree with this. Black artists are the blueprint. They paved the way. without them your faves would have never made it.

Hmmm a fair call.

It's mimicking black culture.
from south korea

is also wrong to say it's their music, since it's not original music just copied.

I know of some songs that definitely were taken from that had NO credit or permission. Blackpink-Pink Venom most def is one. As for BG's who do mostly pop/rock I feel like they don't take as much. Some style they have is similar but then again, the grunge and rock styles I feel like are less so. Ofc the rnb and hiphop/rap they use is obviously mostly influenced by black culture because they are the ones who created it. I don't usually find it weird when they have PERMISSION or work with the black artist on it. Whenever they APPROPRIATE black or any other poc culture I always make a face of disgust like a frown. Because I know it's wrong and more than likely they don't have permission to do it. Like that incident with the boy who wore a durag at one of the concerts in Texas I believe?
