You better not submit it less than an hour before the due date, otherwise its a "last minute effort" and worthy of a late penalty
In summary a student turned in an assignment 13 minutes before the due date/time, was given a late penalty, and when asked about it the professor agreed that it was turned in on time but because it was less than an hour before it represented a "last minute effort" and therefore decided they wouldn't get rid of the penalty.

Yeah it makes no sense at all. It's not a grey area, it's binary. Either you did turn it on time or you didn't, there shouldn't be a 3rd "you did but eh take the punishment anyways"

By the time I was done with that instructor they would be ugly crying. And I've done it more than once . That is actually against federal law. A due date is considered by the supreme court to be a contract. That's why schools must do syllabus for each class. And that line about it being subject to change doesn't cover them. There's actually a specific supreme court ruling on it.

Tbh it isn't impossible that they finished most or all of it before and didn't have the chance to turn it in for whatever reason.

Kind of wish you were here that time my professor was reluctant to give me a chance to make up an assignment and test. The assignment was due while I was in the hospital and the test 3 hours after I got out of the hospital.

I'm sadistic, I love interactions like that. The salt in that wound is the doctor's note. If a doctor wrote that you were in the hospital and HAD to have a makeup the professor has NO choice but to allow you. No schools legal department wouldn side with you because you would be guaranteed to win. The key is the words the doctors use. And doctor's love to note flex other professions.

Im not sure if there was a note, this was a while ago, they might have. The school 100% did confirm though that I was gone and they let my professors know. I don’t know what the professors deal was. He even asked me if I’m sure I had a medical reason which is weird af because like I said, the health department confirmed my absence and I saw the emails they sent to the professors (I was added to them).

Maybe, I'm not certain what year that was (hospital stuff happened more than once while I was in school). I think you probably were but I'm not certain.
