I was talking about a monument I want to go to while on vacation. The monument is for Laika, the first dog in space. My mom got really confused and asked if I was sure, because according to her the first dogs in space were Belka and Strelka, and that Laika is just a dog breed not a dog name. I lowkey thought I was losing it, but then checked google and found out I was right. Some time later we were going somewhere as a family and I remembered that and asked my dad (who has been interested in space stuff for a long time) who was the first space dog, and without hesitation he replied Belka and Strelka
But unlike my mom he remembered Laika when we mentioned her, he said that growing up everyone talked about Belka and Strelka and ignored Laika, which I can understand. It’s hard to spin the Laika situation into a solely positive thing.
