Have you ever had to repeat a grade? (1 Viewer)

or been in danger of having to do so? idk why, but this was provoked by the "what age did you start school" thread. lol

bc that was me in eighth grade. My grades were so low that year, and I was so much more concerned about the Backstreet Boys (for example) than getting ready for high school, that they almost made me repeat it. I ended up not having to after all, but that year was probably the worst for me, tied with twelfth grade. (which I did repeat, but by choice)

I never have repeated grades before when I was in school.

But I did repeat a few classes when I was community college. That was the reason why it took me nearly 4 years to graduate instead of 2

I have not, my parents would not have been thrilled if I did. I was very much pressured to do well in school (still am and more so than any child should have been) so I had to be the best of the best. I wasn’t, not even close. I was twice in danger of having to repeat a class. Grade nine advanced math (the reason why I begged to go down to the lower level math) had me finishing with a 53%. I also had a college class last semester that I was in danger of failing, I actually had an F in the class until the final assignment. Both resulted in lectures from my parents.

No but I did repeat a class in uni because I took a medical leave when taking it the first time. Maybe more than one. Not certain

For some reason as child, I ended up staying in Kindergarten again because I was "too immature".

Look, my memories of when I was that young aren't great, but I am still baffled that was an okay decision. I was a kid. You aren't supposed to be the pinnacle of maturity at that age and like... if I had issues, then give me the help needed while moving me up?

I know it was sometime after that happened I started getting social anxiety and become so shy and nervous about speaking to others... and then they moved me up. It's like they were saying that being mature = shutting up and keeping to yourself.

I know that's not what they were saying... probably. But it certainly read that way to me. And I'm still affected by that kind of anxiety. It's better now. But I hate it. It's like, being "outgoing" was bad, but being "quiet" is also bad. I could never do it right.

In a way yes and no. I never actually repeated a grade but for a few years didn’t attend school, so I was extremely behind on required credits by the time that I was at High School freshman age. And for about two years attended a sort of online thing but didn’t gain but one single credit (I had zero desire to learn, difficult time in life and could never focus on school since it was all online). So when I was at the age of 18 my mom found a HS that would work with me to get all the credits I needed within 3 years (so I had to really do a lot of work and push myself). I was generally put in classes mainly with freshman and one with sophomore’s, along with special ed classes, I was considered a “super Senior” is what the school called it. So by the time I officially graduated I was 21. I was the oldest student the entire time which was always interesting but wasn’t necessarily a big deal either.
I had a lot of awesome teachers who helped me to graduate within those 3 years, especially my special ed teacher, she was awesome. I still visit her to this day.

only for year 1 there were concerns that I'd be too behind but I ended up being allowed to go through to year 2 because my English skills improved a lot that year, I had a great teacher who put in a lot of effort to teach me to speak, read and write well so it's thanks to her I made that progress~
(I have immigrant parents who barely knew how to speak English at the time so I had to learn English in kindergarten-year 2 so I was always confused in the earlier years of primary)

when I was 5, I had to stay back one more year in kindergarten even though I was already at that age where I was supposed to start primary (the Aussie way of saying ‘elementary’) in grade prep. I started going to primary school as a grade prep student at age 6 instead. There’s a reason why that happened but I won’t get into that cuz I‘m not comfortable sharing some personal stuff with anyone that I don’t know and that I‘m not even close friends with.

No, I haven't
I think I'm doing pretty good in school I didn't get 1st place last school year (only 2nd) when I always did ever since 4th grade (except for the grade levels when we had full online classes, phew my grades dropped when I had online classes ) but my parents told me they're still proud of me for studying hard so all is good but getting 1st place again is still the goal though
