Took me all week to finish a measly 300 page book, as if taking longer to read it will protect the characters.

That's me when playing story-driven games. When I played 'Dishonored' the 1st time I even googled for cheats to save Jessamine.

That being said, there is a 'hack' to save her (of course, it does save her only in your mind and not in the story)
