I've been taking The Science of Well-Being lately: https://www.coursera.org/learn/the-science-of-well-being/home/info

It's a free class by a Yale professor who was interested in making the class after she became a dean at Yale and noticed first-hand that a lot of college students were dealing with anxiety and depression. So she wanted to find a way to turn the science and research into something that could actually help people and be very prescriptive, since a lot of research tends to be like "here's this phenomenon" but not what do you do with that information. Each week, she has what she calls "rewirements" for you to try, specific activities that have been shown to increase people's happiness. Emphasis on "try" since just because something works for a population, that doesn't mean it'll click for you specifically. But there are a lot of them, so you can try a bunch of stuff and see what clicks and what doesn't.

It's been pretty interesting so far. I'm only on week three, but I've noticed things like after book club this week, I didn't leave and have my traitor brain go "omg, I can't believe you said that stupid thing, so-and-so probably thinks you're a weirdo." I left thinking that I had fun. So small moments, but it's funny how much that boosts my overall mood.

What about you? Have you ever tried one of these, like, post-school/college/university classes just because you wanted to learn something new?

Disclaimer: I heard about this specific course on a podcast, so I don't know anything about the site it's on as a whole.

I have not but I’m suppose to be getting a dementia educational course from my job
That should be interesting! It feels like one of those topics that "everyone knows" but I bet there's actually a lot of misconceptions and things to learn about it.

Yeah no ones knows about dementia other than it being a memory issue. I work with elderly people who have it and it affects literally everything they do.

A friend's grandma has it, but to your point, the only thing I know about it is that her grandma has good and bad days, and she increasingly has more bad days where she doesn't remember my friend at all. It's got to be super painful for the family and very scary for the person with it.

Yes its a very demanding disease and its incurable thats why people with dementia need someone else there to help them 24/7. If you want a clearer picture, one of the clients I work with has a PhD and ever since his diagnosis, he could barely read the words he sees in front of him.
