Well you've come to the right thread!! Listen up and take notes because I won't repeat myself

Originally named "anabaptists", meaning "to be baptized again", they were founded by John Smith (1570-1612) in England.
The religion emphasizes intentional commitment, scriptures, adult baptism, and evangelism.

They practice Believer's Baptism, meaning a person 1) must make a believer's confession of faith, 2) make an intentional commitment (a conscious decision), 3) must be an adult to be baptized, 4) must be submerged under water when baptized (no sprinkling).

However, they also believe that baptism is not necessary for salvation.

Why did the anabaptists become the baptists?
That's easy! It's because the first generations - the anabaptists - were baptized as infants under their parent's religion and then rebaptized as adults, hence becoming "anabaptists".
The second generation, having not been baptized as infants, became the "baptists" since they were baptized only once in their lifetime!

And you'd be right too! Just look at Martin Luther, founder of Lutheranism, who explicitly said "do not name the religion after me" as well as John Calvin, founder of Calvinism who said the same thing. Nobody gets what they want
