Essentially it is a theory of time arguing that the past and present both exist, and the future as yet does not. The present is viewed as an objective feature of reality, like a moving spotlight. As time passes, more of the universe comes into existence—this idea suggests the block universe is "growing." The growth occurs at the present moment, a thin slice of spacetime where new parts of spacetime continually emerge.​
