You may have, it was a famous “chess robot” from the 1700s and 1800s. Of course it was a hoax (I assume everyone knows that robots that can play chess didn’t exist then), but it was a very elaborate one that fooled a lot of people. It was also very good at playing (ie the people inside were very very good at playing). But did you know that some very famous people actually played against it? 2 of them include Benjamin Franklin and Napoleon, who both lost. The Mechanical Turk was ultimately lost in Philadelphia in a fire in 1854.
