Class:y is a seven member girl group who debuted on May 5, 2022 with the song Shut Down. The group was formed off MBC’s latest survival show, My Teenage Girl. The show had trainees from age 12 to young 20s, with seven girls making the final lineup. The trainees were divided by different “grades” into age categories. The group is signed under M25 which is a subsidiary label of MBC. The girls have signed a seven year contract as of their debut date.
“We customize our own” - this is the greeting Class:y uses. It was first introduced in teasers prior to their debut. Class:y’s fandom name is called Clike:y.
Hyeju is the leader of Class:y. Born December 9, 2003, she is one of the older members of Class:y. She ranked fourth place on My Teenage Girl and was a part of the 4th grade trainees. Hyeju is also the main dancer and lead rapper.
Hyungseo was another 4th grade trainee on My Teenage Girl. She ranked third overall. Her positions in Class:y are lead vocalist, rapper and visual. She was born June 25, 2001, making her the oldest member. She formerly was a member of Buster’s with Kep1er’s Yeseo.
Chaewon is the last of the 4th grade trainees to debut. She ranked 7th place on My Teenage Girl. Chaewon was often praised for her elegant yet powerful vocals, which is no surprise that she is the main vocalist. She was born June 4th, 2003.
Riwon is Class:y’s main dancer and vocalist. She is often nicknamed Kim Lemon. She was born January 7, 2007, making her a 2nd grade trainee on My Teenage Girl. She ranked 5th overall after having steady ranks thoughout the show. Riwon is also a model and has several endorsements.
Jimin was the top ranking trainee on My Teenage Girl. Born on November 25, 2007, she is the other member of 2nd grade who debuted. Class:y members often comment on Jimin’s confidence. As a member of Class:y she is a main vocalist and the center.
Boeun is Class:y’s lead vocalist. From her days on My Teenage Girl she was complimented on her strong vocals at such a young age. She was born February 11, 2008. She was the oldest of the 1st grade trainees and the second youngest member of Class:y. Boeun is known by her nickname Baby Duck. Boeun is also known for her aegyo. She ranked 6th on My Teenage Girl.
Seonyou is the youngest member (maknae) of Class:y. She was born March 20, 2008. She ranked 2nd on My Teenage Girl. She participated on Cap-Teen prior to My Teenage Girl, so she had already had a dream of being in the industry from a really young age. She is also the main rapper, lead dancer and a vocalist.
Prior to Class:y’s debut, and after the show ended, they were promoting Surprise on several music shows. Class:y made their Korean debut in May 2020 with the title track Shut Down off the mini album Y: Class Is Over. They made their Japanese debut in June 2022 with a Japanese version of Same Same Different, My Teenage Girl’s theme song. They also already had a first comeback with their second mini album Z: Lives Across.
